Painting Thoughts
While I paint, I convey my life. My painting is autobiographical. When I paint, I think of my roots, down below, the sea, the sun, childhood, my grandmother, a Dalmatian woman – The color in my paintings. Perhaps because I wasn't there for a period during the war, my impressions and memories are stronger. The warmth of childhood permeates me and draws me to painting. The need for the imaginary grows stronger because that life no longer exists; I constantly relive it through painting. Whatever I paint, whether it's a portrait, a human figure, or a landscape, I think of my childhood, which I convey onto the canvas through color. Hence the abundance of improvisation, and painting becomes more exciting. I never know where or when I'll finish. I don't get attached to the painting. It continues to tell its story on its own. For me, it's a finished experience, and I move on.
